S2Ep5 - The Blue Tile Project with Joey and Kelly Sanchez

In todays show we're going to being talking about little 3/4" square, blue ceramic tiles. Starting nearly 100 years ago, these tiles used to be embedded right in to the concrete of street curbs throughout the city of Houston. In the early days of the city, these blue tiles were used somewhat like modern-day computer pixels against a background of white tiles, to spell out the street names and house numbers of home addresses. This design feature served as the very first street signs for the city of Houston. The Blue Tile Project is an ongoing effort to celebrate and to keep alive this unique architectural design feature from a bygone era of Houston. The guests are Joey and Kelly Sanchez, the founders of The Blue Tile Project.
